Conexus Tuition’s Alternative Provision with the Local Council

We’re excited to announce that Conexus Tuition Southbourne, Christchurch, and Bournemouth East is now an approved provider of alternative provision with the local council. So what does this mean?

Alternative provision is education arranged by local authorities (such as council or schools) for any and all children who are currently not in mainstream school. This does not include home educated children, but is for children who are unable to attend school. This could be for any number of reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Behavioural concerns
  • Emotional concerns
  • Mental Health concerns
  • SEND needs
  • School anxiety
  • Waiting for a place in a local school
  • On a waiting list for a specialist school

There are currently over 100 providers of alternative provision in the BCP area, now including Conexus Tuition. All of whom had to tender a bid explaining our business and the calibre of the tutors. We were then awarded the ‘most advantageous bid’ which we’re extremely proud of. Moving forward, the council matches children up with provision providers based on their needs to support them with bespoke, tailored education that is quite different to classroom learning. This provision will mostly include academic subjects such as science, maths, and English but taught through different activities that are less like school classrooms. But alternative provision can also look like:

  • Equine course
  • Animal care
  • Forest school
  • Water sports
  • Crafts
  • Wellbeing
  • Project based learning

It’s about coming up with a tailored package for each child, very much depending on their needs and their situation. This could be a temporary situation or more long term if a child is known to have very complex needs and there isn’t a school that could support them. This is a case by case basis where we can provide the academic aspects of education such as English, maths and science, but also additional education in wider areas. This can be online, face-to-face, or even at the child’s home depending on what’s best for them.

We’re looking forward to extending the scope of our tuition sessions to provide a wider range of education through tutors and collaboration with local organisations, with more daytime sessions available and in the future, more opportunities for our after school students as well.
