We’re currently looking for an experienced GCSE Science tutor to join our team.
We’re looking for a confident and experienced Science tutor to deliver small-group GCSE Science tuition at our Southbourne learning hub.
The immediate requirement is for at least one weekday, 4.30–6.30pm, with the possibility of additional evenings if wanted.
This is a self-employed role, so it can work equally well for someone looking for just a couple of regular hours each week, or for someone interested in taking on additional tutoring opportunities.
We also regularly have opportunities for daytime alternative provision, 1:1 tuition, KS3 Science, online tuition and other referral work, so there is scope for more hours for the right person.

We believe that supporting a child’s education is absolutely vital, and a huge part of how they experience learning comes from their confidence level. Our main priority during tuition sessions is helping children to develop skills that enable them to remain calm and collected when presented with a challenge. We strive to help all of our children to see how capable they are so that when they come across a problem, they can work to solve it.
What We’re Looking For:
- Confident and experienced teaching GCSE Science
- Able to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics
- Confident with Combined Science and Triple Science
- Able to support both Foundation and Higher tier students
- Familiar with GCSE specifications, exam technique and mark schemes
- Engaging, compassionate and adaptable teaching style
- Available for at least one regular weekday from 4.30–6.30pm
- Local to the Bournemouth/Southbourne area
- Qualified teacher or experienced GCSE Science tutor
Our Expectations:
- Deliver regular small-group tuition during the agreed timetable
- Plan and prepare your own sessions to meet the needs of the students in your group
- Provide any specific teaching materials or printing required for your sessions
- Explain difficult concepts clearly and adapt teaching for different abilities
- Build positive and professional relationships with students
- Follow all safeguarding, child protection and Conexus policies
- Complete the required safer recruitment and onboarding process
- Communicate reliably regarding availability, attendance and any concerns

You’ll be working with small groups of a maximum of 6 students, allowing you to provide genuinely personalised support while still benefiting from the interaction of a group setting.
PLEASE NOTE: The GCSE Science sessions are delivered in person at our Southbourne learning hub in Bournemouth. Additional opportunities may include daytime, 1:1 and online work depending on your availability and interests.

Safeguarding is central to everything we do. All tutors complete our safer recruitment process, including:
- Identity and right-to-work checks
- References
- Relevant background and document checks
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Safeguarding and PREVENT training
- Relevant Conexus policy and safeguarding training
Pay
The current rate for our after-school small-group tuition is £40 per hour on a self-employed basis.
Additional opportunities may be paid at different rates depending on the type of work.
